What if I’m afraid of the water?
You are not alone, and this program is intentionally designed for nervous or hesitant adults. Many Adult Lane swimmers begin feeling unsure or fearful in the water, and that is completely normal. Lessons take place in a calm, adults-only environment, and instructors are trained to move at a gentle, supportive pace that prioritizes comfort and trust. There is no pressure to rush or perform. Instructors focus on building confidence first, meeting each swimmer exactly where they are.
Do I need prior swim experience?
No prior swim experience is required. Adult Lane welcomes complete beginners as well as adults looking to build confidence, improve safety, or refine existing skills.
Do I need to put my face in the water right away?
No. Submersion and breath work are introduced gradually and only when a swimmer feels ready. Instructors move at each swimmer’s pace and focus on comfort and confidence first.
How do I know what level I should be in?
Placement is based on instructor observation and comfort in the water. Instructors continue to assess skills throughout lessons and adjust guidance as swimmers progress. Advancement is based on readiness rather than a fixed timeline.
How many people will be in my class?
Adult Lane classes are kept small, with up to four swimmers per instructor. This allows for meaningful guidance in a focused, supportive group environment.
How long are the lessons?
Each Adult Lane lesson is 45 minutes long, providing ample time for instruction, practice, and rest without feeling rushed.
Do I need to commit to a weekly time slot?
No. Adult Lane is designed to fit into busy adult schedules. Instead of a fixed weekly time, you receive four adult swim lessons each month that you schedule when they work best for you. This flexible model allows you to adjust around work, travel, family responsibilities, or personal commitments while still maintaining consistency.
Can I attend classes at different locations?
Yes. Adult Lane swimmers may schedule classes at any participating Adult Lane location based on availability, allowing you to choose the most convenient location.
What if I miss a class or forget to schedule?
Adult Lane lessons are issued monthly and must be scheduled within the month they are issued. Unused lessons expire at the end of the month and do not roll over. We recommend scheduling early to secure preferred times. This structure helps keep the program flexible and ensures consistent availability for all adult swimmers.
What is the cancellation policy?
Adult Lane follows British Swim School’s standard 30-day cancellation policy. If you choose to cancel your enrollment, we ask for 30 days’ notice in accordance with this policy. Our team is happy to help answer questions specific to your account.
What should I bring to class?
Please bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a change of clothes for after class. We recommend arriving dressed and ready for class to make the experience as smooth as possible.
Are locker rooms and showers available?
Yes. Our Ocean Avenue, Potrero Hill, and San Mateo locations provide access to bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers for adult swimmers. Private changing tents are also available on deck if needed.
