What Is Survival Week?

In real-life water situations, individuals are often not wearing swimwear or goggles. Survival Week is designed to help students safely experience how water feels when everyday conditions are different from a typical swim lesson.

During this week, students practice core water-safety skills in a controlled, supportive environment while wearing light clothing over their swimsuits. This allows them to better understand how their body moves in the water and how clothing can affect buoyancy and movement—an important part of building real-world water confidence.

After completing Survival Week, students will better understand:

  • How it feels to enter the water, float, and move while wearing clothes

  • How to swim and maintain awareness without goggles

  • How to apply swim skills more confidently during water activities outside of lessons

How to Prepare for Survival Week:

To help feel comfortable and ready, please plan for student to:

  • Wear a swimsuit underneath their clothes

  • Dress in everyday, lightweight attire, such as a t-shirt and shorts or pants

  • Bring a plastic bag to store wet clothes after the lesson
